Dear ISO/TC213 experts,

It is our pleasure to invite you all at the next

ISO/TC213 meeting on 2006-09-05/14
Politecnico di Torino (Technical University of Turin)
C.so Castelfidardo 51, Torino, Italy

Turin has recently become famous in the world as host city of the 20th Winter Olympic Games, which were held in February this year. This brought renovation and brand-new facilities to the city, including the underground transportation system (metro). However, Turin is worth a visit beyond the recent Olympics. With its 2000 year history, Turin combines culture, art, science and technology. It was the first capital city of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861; the splendours of the Savoy royal family drove the development of a fine baroque architecture. World-class museums are available, including the world’s second largest Egyptian museum, the Sabauda Gallery i.e. Turin’s royal gallery, and the National Cinema Museum, seated in Turin’s most typical landmark, the 167 m tall Mole Antonelliana. Turin is a city of science and technology, too. Among its most famous scientists are Amedeo Avogadro and Galileo Ferraris. Two universities - including the Politecnico - are active and provide scientists and engineers for front end developments. Turin and the surrounding area have a leading role in telecommunications, aerospace technology and computer science, and are by far the pole of Italian automotive industry.

The organiser of this meeting is the Associazione CMM Club Italia, a non for profit society operating under the aegis of the INRIM (Italian National Research Institute of Metrology, formerly named IMGC) to promote awareness on dimensional metrology in Italy. With its 70+ members (mainly companies, plus universities and research institutes), the CMM Club has always followed closely and supported the activity of the ISO/TC213, and is now honoured to host it in the city where it is seated.

The Technical University of Turin covers all fields of engineering and architecture; with its 26,000 students, 6 main schools, 1 graduate school and 890 lecturers and researchers, it is one of the most important in Italy. The Politecnico has also been deeply involved in the activity of the ISO/TC213, and is glad to host the meetings in its seat.

We look forward to meet you all in Turin in September; enjoy the discreet flavour of Turin!
